In the Heart of the Underground Sourdough: Care & Preservation Tips

You've just received your loaf, warm from the secret ovens of the Underground. To keep the magic alive, follow these sacred tips passed down through the shadows:

🥖 Same-Day Enjoyment (Highly Recommended):

Nothing beats that first slice when the crust still sings and the crumb is full of warmth. No need for anything fancy—just tear, share, and savor.

🧊 Short-Term Storage (1–2 Days):

Wrap your loaf in a clean tea towel or place it in a paper bag. Leave it at room temperature on your counter. -- never in the fridge (that’s where good sourdough goes to die)

🥶 Long-Term Preservation (Freezing):

If you must store it longer, slice the loaf first, then freeze in a sealed bag. That way, you can pull out a slice or two at a time and toast your way back to underground glory.

🔥 To Revive the Magic:

If your loaf has lost a bit of its charm, don’t worry—the magic can be restored. Run the crust quickly under cold water from the faucet (yes, really). This reawakens the loaf’s moisture from within. Then place it directly on the oven rack at 350°F for 10–15 minutes. The crust will crisp, the crumb will soften, and your sourdough will rise again like it just came out of the underground oven.
